No tics when alone

I just saw a documentary on tic disorders. Interestingly, a women affecting by tics said that she is symptom free when she is alone, but the tics start when her husband comes home and gets worse in public social situations. Sounds awfully familiar to stuttering. I wouldn't be surprised if a similar mechanism is behind this phenomena.

The most curious thing is that the same type of situacional variation also happens in spasmodic dysphonia. Do you remember that your post on Scott Adams?

This must be a common characteristic to neurological problems that affect the basal ganglia.

HUGO: Yes, it would be interesting to list all disorders that have situational variation. I heard that semi-deaf people also experience variation in hearing, but not sure when it is also situational.

RICK: I was on German TV talking about tics and obsessive behaviour.
